David Cameron sought to outflank Labour last night by recruiting Bob Geldof, the anti-poverty campaigner and pop star, to help to form Conservative Party policy.

Geldof, who organised last summer's Live8 rock concerts and served on Tony Blair's Commission for Africa, will act as a consultant to the Tories' new policy group on globalisation and global poverty.
